Kountable™ is a mobile app driven platform that facilitates global trade in developing nations and economies by leveraging social and business connections, effectively turning social capital into financial capital. Using our app to empower entrepreneurs of small & medium enterprises (SMEs), we qualify and fund SMEs and projects that can enhance the economy, quality of life, health and education in these markets.

One such project was through Africa Medical Suppliers (AMS) in Rwanda. Fabrice Shema, CEO of AMS had won a tender from the Rwandan Ministry of Health to supply 24 neonatal units through international suppliers. Fabrice would kit together the required equipment and provide training for the nurses and technicians on its use and maintenance to 11 hospitals across Rwanda. Before this project, Rwanda had only 2 operational NICUs located in the capital city of Kigali to serve a population of 12.1 million and an average 328,000 births a year.

This was a $670K contract with a very attractive profit margin for AMS, providing Fabrice could secure financing on reasonable terms. To deliver on the contract, over $356K in incubators, and other supplies would need to be imported from India and AMS needed to have them purchased, delivered and installed and train all personnel on a tight timeframe.

Despite his reputation and the high quality of both the suppliers and the Ministry as his client, funding to meet this project’s requirements was not available from traditional sources. Banks required that he put up 100% collateral outside the trade, which was simply not possible on such a large amount, and he needed the funds quickly in order to deliver on time.

Fabrice approached kountable. With his high score through our app and track record of executing smaller projects successfully, he was able to access the needed financial capital from Kountable to complete the project on time. A healthy SME sector is the primary driver of both job creation and GDP in developing countries. By carefully vetting deals and monitoring them closely as they progress, Kountable is able to create superior outcomes for the supplier, SME and buyer, building the SME sector in a way that benefits all stakeholders.
