I’m often asked, “What should I read to keep current with the industry?” Publications I faithfully read are: Mass Device: Mass Device started out as a publication dedicated to the device goings on in, well, Massachusetts. But they’ve long since expanded to cover medical device news all over the world. They do a particularly good job covering the medical device tax, in my opinion. MedCity News: What I like best about MedCity News is the variety of sources for their news. They’re kind of a hybrid: Founder Chris Seper has full-time journalists on staff and they also encourage medical device professionals to contribute as “MedCitizens.” I wrote a few pieces and then this “Great Big Group” happened, so I haven’t had as much time. (Sorry, Chris.) FierceMedicalDevices: I used to read Fiercehealthcare more regularly (I still get their daily emails) but they recently added FierceMedicalDevices to their repertoire. I prefer that one because it’s more focused on our industry. MD+DI: I’ve been reading Medical Device + Diagnostic Industry for years. I used to get it in hard copy, now electronically. It is written for original equipment manufacturers of medical devices and in vitro diagnostic products and they focus on the development, design, and manufacturing of medical products that comply with complex and demanding regulations and market requirements. Medsider: I enjoy Scott Nelson’s podcasts at Medsider . He finds some of the smartest players in the medical device industry and audio-records an interview for replay. (You can read a transcript as well.) Beaker: The highlight for me is their weekly “BeakerBeat,” by Michael Justice at BeakerBeat. Beyond that, Beaker, fastest-growing recruitment solution for companies within the life sciences industry, provides a direct connection to the leading employers across the industry. I visit the following from time-to-time: PlasticNews – for innovative uses of plastics in medical device design, development, and manufacturing MedicalDevicesSummit – news, tech, trends, reg, and expert opinions MedicalDeviceDaily – Thompson’s business-focused medtech news MPNmagazine – for manufacturers of plastics in medical and drug delivery devices, their components and diagnostics. PharmaLive – pharma industry news from UBM Canon ClinicalLeader – for clinical research, an online companion to Life Science Leader How about you? Do read these? What did I miss? ++++++++++ Clinical Trials: How do you choose a clinical trial partner? Who even should be on the request for proposal? Novella did a nice job with the questions and answers on piece: CToutsource ++++++++++ Focus on Clinical Research Organizations (CROs): A survey to shape our discussion at 10x, please: CRO-survey What drives your CRO decision? CRO-decision Also ISO13485 requirements on Component Parts ++++++++++ If you deal in implants or drug devices, you missed out last week. I attended the “Biocompatibility and Performance of Medical Devices” conference in London and met (among others) David F. Williams, one of the fathers of biocompatibility. Your second chance: David is joining the faculty in May when they bring the conference to Minneapolis. Make it a great week. Joe Hage P.S. You guys are awesome. See MDG.Net Julie Omohundro P.S.
