Thoughts on the Zika virus?
2 min reading time

Is this going to be solved exclusively with pharmacology or might devices play a role?

Diagnostics will need to play a role. Rapid POC tests for the front line could be important to help contain the virus.

Using Google Translate, Joseph MULUMBA said, “Just to say something about the virus that makes cold in the back. you realize if unfortunately a case could reach the sub-Saharan Africa or the tiger mosquitoes swarm, because in the case of malaria was preferred protect human grace the screen without killing the causative agent. today prevention must see to the elimination of the vector rather than maintain.”

Reducing the mosquito population is important, but I think canceling or moving the Olympics is a better choice for keeping this virus isolated. Continue with a world venue event is just going to make the problem worse.

I sure think that whatever form a cure finds its way, logistics, administration and safe handling (including waste) would benefit from the right device being used.

Genetic mutation is an option. Oxitec previously had success releasing genetically modified sterile Aedes aegypti mosquitos to combat Dengue. Unfortunately, Brazil doesn’t have much time to eradicate the mosquitos before the summer Olympics, so hopefully a combination of traditional methods and genetically modified mosquitos will work.

Every bit of standing water is a breading ground for the mosquitos- draining the swampsAND massive puvluc health education. What a disaster.
