Walt Maclay, President of Voler Systems, easily rattled off a dozen watch outs for anyone thinking of creating a wearable sensor. He began with accurately measuring the heart rate.
“Heart rate is simple to implement in theory, but difficult to measure on the wrist,” he began. Walt suggested pulse plethysmography or PPG as a more reliable technique.
After Walt told me about the shortcomings of skin temperature to measure temperature and the issues around measuring EKGs, I knew we should have a group discussion about it.
So we invite you to replay and download this plenary session about the steps you need to take to build a better wearable device and get it cleared through FDA.
